Nightcrawler Review

Image
The further you go, the darker it gets.. Although throughout 2014 already we have had great thrillers such as 'Transcendence' and 'Gone Girl' which itself explores the wild misconceptions and dangerous influences of the media, 'Nightcrawler' goes beyond that and explores another even more corrupt slant of the entity's nature; boldly capitalizing on the popularity of crime television (violence, murder, blood, fires, gunshots). ' 'Nightcrawler' follows Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhall) as he climbs up the ladder of success from being a rock-bottom thief selling scrap for any amount of money he can get, to being a freelance videographer for a T.V news channel; ambitiously fixating himself to the streets of L.A in the dead of night shooting for the most shocking and  risqué footage he can get away with. Lacking a formal education and adequate work experience, Bloom is truly a victim of the unfair modern job market/unemployment. Uncannily cr

'Paperman' Review/ Disney's future

Image
A cute insight into the future... It's amazing to see in the past decade just how one company can change from being something that was ending up to be forgotten, to rise up and make amazing content again. Of course the company that I am of course talking about is Disney. A company which well let's be honest, boomed in the 90's era creating diverse and entertaining hand-drawn animation, and then faltered in their own demise in the early/ mid 2000's due to Pixar's separation and success and lack of creativity when it came down to other projects such as the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' sequels and others which fell down the pipe. However despite this, looking at Disney today, specifically the Walt Disney Animation studio, I can honestly say that Disney are once again making great content for all ages which for me brings up a bold statement.. are we once again witnessing a Disney 'New Wave' when it comes to their animated content? So obviously one

'Knights of Sidonia' Season 1 Review

An interesting mixed piece of work... I t's interesting looking at Netflix in this time and day and realising just how many different type of T.V/Films they have an offer that surprisingly can be 90% of the time be really good. The one kind of downside to the content that they don't offer a lot more often though which they should really do is Japanese Anime. I mean don't get me wrong, there are Anime shows on Netflix that people do watch. My point is that there should be more Anime on Netflix that have been an instant hit such as 'Attack on Titan' or perhaps any film that Studio Ghibli have done. In the case of Knight's of Sidonia, although it's nice to see that Netflix have their own first original anime series that at an instance already has all 12 episodes of Season 1 ready for viewing pleasure, when it comes down to the content (story, animation), it isn't the most consistent and can take some getting used when you first watch it. Netflix doe

Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch Review

A refreshing game filled with old and new touches  Over the years of gaming's history, I think it's really easy to suggest that the RPG (Role Playing Game) genre really is a hard type of game to consume and engross in. While in Japan and other Asian countries people are used to playing long and stretched out games such as these, in the West it's a hard sell for games such as 'Final Fantasy' and the 'Tales of...' series due to the fact that we are very much used to hard-core sellers such as 'Call Of Duty', FIFA that really don't make us sit through a long ordeal and that it takes forever to do something. I personally think our mind set (Western audiences) when it comes to gaming is that everything should be instant and fast paced and we don't have to 'explore' a game such as 'Call Of Duty' or 'FIFA' in great depth. Don't get me wrong there are rare occasions when a certain RPG may appeal to the masses a

Never Let Me Go Review

A good example of a Beautiful and well thought-out Adaptation When we look at modern cinema in this day and age, most often or not we do see films that have been originated from lot's of different sources whether it's from a high-selling book/graphic novel or a highly acclaimed T.V series and then obviously film-makers turn these opportunities into Adaptations. For me at least, when it comes to an Adaptation, I will always be a bit topsy-turvy depending on what the film/adaptation is. A good example of this would be my experience watching Michael Bay's 'Transformers' series which at first glance when I saw the teaser trailer for the first film back in 2007, I was genuinely excited due to the fact that the 'Transformers' franchise was something I grew up with back in the 90's. However when it came to actually watching the feature, it was just a massive disappointment due to the fact that Michael Bay pretty much sexed up a franchise that a lot

Drive Review

Image
A thrill ride of Style, Sound, Romance and emotion. There are only a few films in history that overall in every instance covers a lot of the cinematic spectrum in every frame in a near enough perfect state. I can tell you glad that 'Drive' a film directed by Nicholas Winding Refn suits this statement to the up-most with it's style, sound and visual quality alone. The main plot summary is essentially Ryan Gosling play's this mysterious man who is simply referred to as 'Driver' throughout the entirety of the film, who has multiple jobs being a garage mechanic, a Hollywood stuntman and a getaway driver in which he has a specific work ethos in that you tell him all the information such as the name of the street and the time, he'll be there for 5 minuets. You get the job done in those 5 minuets, he's your man. In the aftermath of the heist, 'Driver' falls in love with his neighbour, Irene (Carey Mulligan) whose husband is in prison and

Arrietty (2010) Review

Image
A Studio Ghibli Gem Many of the films that have been released by Studio Ghibli such as Spirited Away and Howls moving Castle, they are regarded as the best films by Studio Ghibli, the film Arrietty is not one of the best, but it's a film that is charming and you will want to watch it again. The first thing that is noticeable and can differ from a lot of the other Ghibli films is the attention to detail in the still animation. The design and attention to detail are beautiful especially when the story takes us outside of the house and into the outdoor/garden areas; I really have to congratulate the animators for this and still goes to show how much drawn animation can still offer in this present day when a lot of other animation depend on CGI, you simply have to admire what Ghibli have been doing for many years. Along with the stunning colours and visuals, is the music that fit's perfectly well with this film, Cecile Corbel's English iteration of Arrietty's the

The Godfather Review

Image
An Over-rated insignificance that shouldn't be dubbed as 'one of the best' I'm not a fan of this type of movies, but since I like Al Pacino having watched 'Donnie Brasco' and hearing so much about this so-called "legendary" Godfather, I decided to give it a try. I must say this is the most inexplicably overrated piece of trash I've ever seen. Judging from this opening statement I know that these film lovers will aggressively spout out and say that I am 100 percent from about the Godfather... BELIEVE ME when I say that it shouldn't be in the same breath as one of the greatest. Don't get me wrong however, there are a few good qualities which in some way does kind of show some good hallmarks for a good film. The tempo right from the start of the film isn't too bad as it does set a nice tone to the film and signifies how the film will play out from start to finish. In some parts the acting of Marlon Brando as the 'Don
