Top 10 Best Films of the Year Well...It's certainly been an eventful year for film and cinema, hasn't it?! From the hilarious mix-up that plagued the preceding Oscar award ceremony, with La La Land  initially taking the Academy Award for Best Picture but was shockingly announced in the same observance that Moonlight was the actual winner of the category, to the shameful revelation and accusation of Harvey Weinstein sexually harassing and assaulting a many number of actresses, which in turn unearthed hidden truths of a select few who have carried out the same heinous act, it can't go unnoticed just how busy the year of 2017 has been for the cinematic-medium and those who are accustomed to said industry. Aside the aforementioned stories that comprised what the filmic medium was represented to be throughout the year, there have been a lot of films released into cinemas during these past twelve months that have either challenged the very way we perceive a particular stor

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi Film Review

Return To The Unknown? Escapism. This is something which avid cinema-goers and film-lovers strive to look for in features that bestow a sense of palpable grandeur. For sure, there are only a select few film franchises that grant us this opportunity; a freedom that makes us forget about our struggles in life and illuminates a premise that makes us fixate towards the world we're perceiving and become engrossed by the characters that are intricate yet attainable all at once. Peter Jackson's fantastical Lord of the Rings  trilogy of films certainly fulfils this, as does the features that make-up what Star Wars initially was and still is represented to be. While there are evident shortcomings in many of the films that comprise the said acclaimed sci-fi filmic series, especially seen in George Lucas' prequels of Episodes I, II and III, Star Wars remains to be a cinematic franchise that seamlessly appeals to all demographics and isn't just your typical genre-specific sp

Best Of The Rest Unlike many serialised Western animations, and to some extent a plethora of acclaimed live-action T.V. series that we're all so familiar with, the best anime shows pretty often (if not always) provide imperative and latching depth that serves to uncover a deeper meaning; something which many ordinarily lesser T.V. productions can never fully integrate in their own contexts. As much as anime receives a mindless rebate by those who aren't familiar with the said genre, whereby they critique the general outlook of the animation for being typical and ignorantly lambasting the concept in displaying notions that only young kids and 'geeks' would understand, Japanese animation stands as a platform that not only displays meaningful and original content that makes us, the viewer, think and understand certain things in a different light, it stands today as a principle that is consistently evolving; maturing by experimenting with different animation techniqu

A Compendium Of Poignancy, Colour And Irony There's no denying that films of a festive and jolly nature don't particularly get featured for any of the award ceremonies that proceed afterwards. However, as humbug as many critics like to be when judging and determining which Christmas film should be the one to watch, nearly all of merry features you can think of, in many ways, revives our inner child-like character who wishes to regain his or hers sense of wonderment. From the black-and-white classics such as Frank Capra's It's a Wonderful Life ,  to the many different iterations of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol , in particular Brian Henson's The Muppet Christmas Carol  of which I personally prefer, there's something for everyone who wants their viewing gaze warm and cosy. For myself, while the more blatantly potent Christmas films, including Elf  , The Polar Express and Home Alone  put me in a rather gleaming mood, it's the consistent once-a-
